A terrible, bearded and, to you, unknown man, armed to the teeth, covered in mud from head to foot, suddenly burst into the house, frightened you to death with his unfamiliar smell and bedded your mother before you managed to get out of the room and realize that this was your father. And the same thing happened in every victor's home. Thereafter they kept, and still keep, a tight rein on their women, their horses and their power. As for their children you and your generation they will keep you in their shadow and on a leash until you start to count your grey hairs.
